Eight Hourson the Ferry

The ferry is a place where an extraordinary variety of people come together, each on their way to a different destination. For five minutes, a small society forms on board: commuters, tourists, cyclists, construction workers and students stand side by side on the same boat. Moments later, it empties again, only to fill up with a completely different group. All day long, the same cycle repeats. For this series, I spent eight hours travelling back and forth between Amsterdam Central Station, NDSM, Pontsteiger and Buiksloterweg. I came to observe, but also to step out of my own anonymity. I approached strangers with one simple question: “Where are you going?”
